Adoption of Bylaws Amendments Expanding Association to Include Voice Writing Technology
Adoption of Bylaws Amendments to Include Voice Writing Technology
At the Ohio Court Reporters Association’s 2026 Annual Business Meeting held on March 21, 2026, the membership voted to adopt amendments to the Association’s Constitution and Bylaws to formally include voice writing technology within the purpose, membership, and structure of the Association.
These amendments recognize voice writing technology as a method of producing a verbatim record of proceedings through speech-based reporting methods and reflect the evolving landscape of the court reporting and captioning profession. With this change, the Association’s purpose now includes advancing the interests and general welfare of court reporting, captioning, and other stenographic and voice writing technology related skill applications. Membership eligibility has also been updated to include professionals, students, educators, and others involved in voice writing technology reporting.
This important step ensures the Ohio Court Reporters Association continues to support and represent the full spectrum of professionals who create the verbatim record and provide captioning services and strengthens the Association’s mission of education, advocacy, ethical standards, and public awareness.
Over the course of the next year, the Association will be working to update its governing documents, policies, website, publications, forms, and other materials to fully incorporate these changes. Members are asked for their patience and support as these updates are implemented and reflected throughout all Association materials and communications.
The Ohio Court Reporters Association remains committed to supporting the entire court reporting and captioning profession and looks forward to continued collaboration, growth, and innovation within the industry.
